WORK IN PROGRESS!

During class last week I randomly doodled a run cycle in my sketchbook and when I came home I fotographed it and tested it as an animation. Surprisingly it worked quite well so I decided to make it a run cycle animation for my character Maraya, obviously before she acquired that leg injury.

I used a slow motion video of a cat as reference material, mainly to fix the error in the order in which the paws hit the ground. Maraya is "left-handed" meaning her left frontpaw is the first to hit the ground.

I've still got a lot of stuff to fix about it, animate the face and add the hair and all that... but I wanted to share what I've got so far in hope you guys might spot mistakes where I've not noticed them so far :) Feel free to critique but please do keep in mind it's still work in progress!

for a work in progress, this is really good! im very impressed!! the only thing i can say about it that is negative (and i really dont want to be) is that she seems a bit stiff and light weighted (forgive my english: i suck at writing) hummm, so here is what i noticed: so yeah, as you said the face should be animated, the ears being still makes this look a bit weird. the neck and shoulders look really stiff and while it is true that the back side should be very bouncy, the shoulder part should remain lower and less bouncy. and if its a fast run, i think the head should be a bit lower as if to make herself more aerodynamic haha.. when the front paws hit the ground and the moment right after it should look more as if she is putting her weight on them, she might drop and go a bit closer to the ground, flexing her legs more. as for the back paws, they are pushing the whole weight of the animal; her hips or bassin (or butt?) should be closer to the ground as she pushes off and would extend more and this extention movement would be faster. one more thing: this extention movement im talking about, when her back paws push off, her head should be closer to the ground, making it less bouncy. when we see tapes of felines running, i feel as though their head bearly moves and stays at the same level or distance to the ground, while the body blures from movement (on fast tapes). ooooh! and the timing of the paws: the front paw to back paw time sould be shorter than the back to front paw time (extention lol or "stretch"). and be carefull with the long tail! please feel free to ask me about anything you find unclear! good job with this!

ok so this is an amazing work and i feel really bad for having written so much, this being almost perfect. i hope you understand that me writting this much just means im very observative, a bit chatty and have not hing else to do at 2:30 in the morning;it does NOt mean that this is badly done, cos lets face it, its very realistic! i dont like having to critique things, scared the other person will feel insulted or as if his work is shit. THIS is absolutely AMAZING. and i only wish i can be at this level of drawing one day. i just want to point out that the little details im picking out are TINY details <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/> this is really good and i cant wait to see a second version of this, if you do one!!
